T -Bar -M to Host MCB Girls 14s National Championships

DALLAS, TX (March 7) – The United States' most outstanding 14-and-under girls will converge on T- Bar -M Racquet Club from March 14 -16 for the 37th Annual Maureen Connolly Brinker Girls 14s National Championships presented by Sterling Bank

Blair Shankle of Comfort, TX, will be the #1 seed. Shankle, the only player to win the “Little Mo” Nationals at 8, 9, 10 and 11 years of age, is ranked #19 in the United States.  (see photo of Blair winning her third "Little Mo" National title.

Natalie Miller, Taylor Powell and Sydney Riley who train at
T- Bar-M are also entered in the event.      Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday,  Saturday and Sunday. The finals will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday.

T- Bar- M Racquet Club has resurfaced its clay tennis courts in preparation for this major event.  The prestigious tournament is named in honor of Maureen Connolly Brinker, the first woman – and only American – to win the Grand Slam of tennis. Winning the Grand Slam at 18 years of age makes her the  youngest to accomplish the rare feat – win the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon Championships and U.S. Open in the same calendar year.

In her short professional tennis career that lasted only four years,   Maureen Connolly won 12 Grand Slam titles, including three       straight Wimbledons, three straight U.S. Opens, two straight  French Opens and two straight Australian Opens. She was the #1-ranked woman player in the world between 1952 and 1954 and was voted the Woman Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press three times. Not surprisingly, Maureen's junior tennis career also included two Girls' 18s National Singles titles – one at the age of 14.
